Year in the Life books Part IVc: Sports addendum

Coffey, Wayne. Winning Sounds Like This: A Season With the Women's Basketball Team at Gallaudet, the World's Only University for the Deaf. Crown, 2002.

Can't believe I left this one off! I finished it just about this time last year, when I was visiting Seattle.

I love it when the subtitle explains the premise of the book! Not much to add, except that it does go beyond basketball. The players come from all over the country, and even beyond the U.S., and have had different experiences with their deafness--some attended schools for the deaf, others attended mainstream schools; they have different degrees of deafness; and some have other family members who are deaf. A couple of the team personnel are hearing, which adds to the diversity. The book paints a portrait of a team and also "the world's only university for the deaf."
